چکیده

Two types of nanoclusters, i.e. Cluster (1) and Cluster (2), play a strongly important role in the bake-hardening (BH) response in Al-Mg-Si alloys. Different formation behaviors of two types of nanoclusters were studied by means of hardness, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), electrical resistivity measurement, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution TEM observation in the both Cu-free and Cuadded Al-Mg-Si alloys. As the results, Cluster (1) formed during natural aging at room temperature causes a deleterious effect, whereas Cluster (2) formed by the pre-aging at 100 C is effective for the suppression of the negative effect on the two-step aging behavior of the both Cu-free and Cu-added alloys. On the other hand, the microalloying of Cu strongly affects the nanocluster formation due to the strong interaction with Mg, Si atoms and vacancies. The first-principle calculation for the two-body interaction energies provides quite useful information to understand the early stage of the phase decomposition. The effects of nanoclusters and the Cu addition on the age-hardening behaviors of Al-Mg-Si alloys are discussed based on the multi-step age-hardening phenomena. [doi:10.2320/matertrans.L-MZ201121]

Influence of Natural Aging Time on Two-Step Aging Behavior of Al-Mg-Si(-Cu) Alloys

Nanoclusters formed during natural aging cause the negative effect of the two-step aging in the age-hardenable Al-Mg-Si alloys. The relationship between the clustering behavior during natural aging and the two-step aging behavior was studied using the hardness, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), electrical resistivity measurements, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation in the...

The Effect of Artificial Aging Treatment and Lubrication Modes on the Cutting Force and the Chip Surface Morphology when Drilling Al-Si-Mg (A356) Cast Alloys

This article reports the effects of various artificial aging methods and lubrication modes (dry, mist, wet) on the recorded cutting forces and chip morphology in drilling Al-Si-Mg (A356) cast alloys. In the course of this work, the work part sampled were as-received alloy (T0), solution heat-treated alloy (SHT) and then aged alloys at 155°C, 180°C, and 220°C (T4, T6, T61, T7), respectively. The...

بررسی اثر اکستروژن در کانال زاویه دار همسان بر رفتار پیر کرنشی دینامیکی یک آلیاژ Al-Mg-Si-Cu

An Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy was subjected to tensile testing, both under solutionized and ECAE-ed conditions, using strain rates of 10-4 s-1 to 10-1 s-1 at temperatures of 25 ˚C to 325 ˚C to investigate the dynamic strain aging (DSA) phenomenon in the alloy. Negative strain rate sensitivity (m) and increasing ultimate tensile stress were observed in the DSA region with increasing temperature . Regardi...

THE INFLUENCE OF DRY SLIDING ON PRCIPITATION HARDENING BEHAVIORS OF Al-Cu-Si ALLOY

Abstract: Cold working performed before an aging treatment has a significant effect on size and amount of precipitate produced. This could be caused by the increase in defect density, such as vacancies and dislocations. In this research, the Al-Cu-Si alloy was solution-treated, wear-tested and then artificially aged for a period of 1–5 h. Changes in the amount of precipitate, in the lattice par...

A Comparative Study on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Si-Cu/1wt %NCP Composites after T6 Heat Treatment

In this article, microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of Al-Si-Cu/NCP composites were evaluated. Reinforced nanocomposites with 1 wt% nano-clay were fabricated by the method of the stir casting. Stirring times and temperatures were variable parameters to produce specimens. Consequently, the effect of a T6 heat treatment, which contained solutioning at 490 ºC for ...
